About Delhi Crime Season 2
Delhi Crime Season 1’s first two episodes were premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category. The series was released on Netflix on 22 March 2019. It received positive responses from critics praising the script, premise and performance of the main cast members. At the International Emmy awards in 2020, Delhi Crime received the award for Drama Series, becoming the first-ever Indian series to win this award. The show was renewed for a second season with the main cast returning and the second season premiered on 26 August 2022.
As with the first season, the ambience here is moody, harsh realism: Creator Richie Mehta and director Tanuj Chopra depict Delhi as a packed, edgy metropolis teetering on the brink of disorder. There’s infinite traffic, unfortunately, divisions in wealth, and a stretched police force struggling to cope with it all. There’s also a good amount of raw violence in this series, but Delhi Crime season 2 doesn’t feel lurid or exploitative. Mehta and Chopra, based this new season on writings by a former Delhi police commissioner. The shooting of the film took place in Delhi in January 2018 and was completed within the course of 62 days.
The series covers the period from the incident happening to the final arrest of the suspects. Before the shoot, Kumar called the entire cast including Shefali Shah, to brief them about police hierarchy, the rank structure, body language of the police and the works so as to find the series to be an authentic depiction of the police on account of these briefings. Kumar has not visited the shooting spot, with the exception of one scene at the India Gate because his visits to the locales would have spread the word that he was getting Delhi Crime season 2 being made for his glorification.
My thoughts about Delhi Crime Season 2
When I watched the first season I was really impressed. Not by how stylish and exciting they made it but rather with what seemed to be a topic that dealt harshly with rape culture in India; Interesting to see the main characters in the police department are women, which I didn’t expect in an Indian Show, lead by Shefali Shah and Rasika Dugal.
If you haven’t watched season one, please do. Delhi Crime Season 2 has a different storyline but the main characters return to a new heartbroken crime. You don’t need to watch season 1 to understand season 2, but both are equally good. This season is shocking and has a punch-in-the-stomach feeling as season one but in a totally different way. It is a must-watch, Streaming on Netflix.
