Hocus Pocus 2 is sure to be a hit with fans of the original film, and with Halloween just around the corner, it is the perfect time to revisit this spooky classic.

About Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a 1993 American fantasy comedy film that follows a villainous comedic trio of witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy (Omri Katz) in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night. The film is directed by Kenny Ortega.

Walt Disney Pictures released The film in the United States on July 16, 1993. Upon its release, it received mixed to negative reviews from film critics and was not a box office success, possibly losing Disney around $16.5 million during its theatrical run.

However, largely through many annual airings on Disney Channel throughout October, Hocus Pocus has been rediscovered by audiences, resulting in a yearly spike in home media sales of the film every Halloween season. The annual celebration of Halloween has helped make the film a cult classic.

Hocus Pocus begins in 1693 when three witches — Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimi) — are preparing a potion that will grant them immortality and eternal youth. But before they finish mixing their cocktail, the people of Salem capture them and execute them for practicing witchcraft. Before their deaths, they vow to return to Salem 300 years hence on Halloween to exact their revenge.

Three hundred years later, a skeptical, newly transplanted Californian, Max (Katz), explores the ruins of the legendary witches house and dares the witches to manifest themselves. Disregarding the warnings of his sister Dani and girlfriend Allison, Max lights the Candle of Black Flame. With that, the witches reappear to wreak havoc on the town.

The kids take off with the witches’ spellbook and a musty tome of hexes and recipes. The sorceresses, who will die by the morning light if they don’t recite the incantation for immortality, have to get the books by whatever means they can. So, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary hop on their broomsticks for a chase through Halloween night.

Is the Hocus Pocus original cast back to the sequence?

Indeed, obviously, 30 years have passed since they filmed the first one but with the magic of makeup and hair, plus the wardrobe, the illusion that they are the same is maintained.

Midler is as always a great entertainer, She said in an interview with Collider about Hocus Pocus 2 “I do love the franchise. I think I’m a little elderly for a franchise, at this point, but I’ll take what I can get.” and in an interview with EW Paker said “I can’t confess to being involved in putting it (the film) together. The minute I heard it was real, I said yes right away. It was incredibly easy. The hard part was scheduling: COVID complicated things, but I can’t tell you how fast I said yes.”

My thoughts about it and where to stream it

Hocus Pocus 2 is streaming now! On Disney+, fans could not be more excited! The original movie was a classic Halloween movie that has become a cult classic over the years. The sequel will again follow the story of the Sanderson Sisters, who are resurrected in the modern day by a group of students unaware of the sisters’ evil ways.

I remember watching the movie in the theatres when I was a kid, and I was obsessed with it. I think it was the whole fantasy, not only about the witches but bringing the past to the present.

The formula still works, bringing the sisters again 30 years after 1993. That was my favourite part and still is, the sisters trying to accommodate in the “future”.

They could extend and explore that part because that’s actually the funny bits of the whole series. The story of the three new witches is a bit weak. However, the character of Becca (one of them) is actually good and the actress (Whitney Peak) is charming and very beautiful.

When watching this kind of movie, you must let your inner child enjoy the ride and let the disbelief of the whole thing pass. You can’t ask questions as to why are they singing famous modern songs if they were in limbo for many years. Or how it is possible that they eat face creams and drink face toner and absolutely nothing happens to them? Well, if you ask yourself those questions, you are watching the wrong movie.

Hocus Pocus 2 is about three witches that were burned in Salem centuries ago, and now they are back to life thanks to a spell they performed. So yes. Let your inner child enjoy it. And It is a nice way to enjoy Halloween without the murders and the gore.
