Super Mario Bros. Movie: Box Office Smash Now on Screen

Fellow Streamer really recommends Mario Bros the movie, regardless of the terrible reviews. Apparently, critics never play the game.

You don’t have to be a crazy fan of Mario, but if you have played the game, you will get everything hype about the movie.

I’ve been playing Mario since I was a kid in the early 90s, and oh my god, the movie really satisfied me. I was extremely excited to watch it; it delivered in every sense.

So the good news is, it’s now streaming on Amazon Prime Canada, or you can rent it on Apple TV. Let’s dive into why this movie is a must-watch. If You are in the USA, you can stream it on Peacock.

First off, let’s talk about the hype surrounding ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie.’ This animated flick has captured the hearts of fans and smashed through the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

For those who’ve been living under a digital rock, this movie is based on Nintendo’s beloved video game series, ‘Super Mario Bros.’ It follows the iconic plumber duo, Mario and Luigi, on a whirlwind adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom. However, things take a twist when they get separated, leaving Mario with the daunting task of rescuing Luigi from the clutches of the nefarious Bowser and saving the entire Mushroom Kingdom, with a little help from Princess Peach.

The star-studded voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser, has truly breathed life into these beloved characters.

They’ve also brought in some fresh talent, like Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, and Fred Armisen, to make this adventure even more entertaining.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. “Oh, it’s just another video game movie adaptation, and those usually disappoint.” But let me tell you, this one is different. It’s not just a movie; it’s a total fan service, and I’m very grateful for that. The film has so many video game references that it feels like a love letter to the Mario franchise.

You’ll still have a blast watching this movie, even if you’re not a hardcore Nintendo or Mario fan. The creators have done a fantastic job of making it accessible to a broader audience. You might not catch all the references, but you’ll know when they’re there, which will make you feel included in the adventure.

Visually, the movie is a treat for the eyes. The stunning animation brings the Mushroom Kingdom and its colourful characters to life in a nostalgic and fresh way. While it may feel rushed in some parts, the story is undeniably compelling. It keeps you engaged from start to finish and leaves you wanting more.

I, for one, can’t wait for the next installment of this animated Mario universe. It’s clear that the creators have a deep respect for the source material, and they’ve managed to capture the essence of what makes Mario games so beloved.

What’s the Movie About?

(Spoilers)

Italian-American brothers Mario and Luigi are just your regular Brooklyn plumbers trying to make a living. Their decision to start a plumbing business in their hometown draws snickers from their ex-employer Spike and disapproval from their father. But little do they know that their lives are about to take an unexpected twist.

It all begins with a significant water main leak making headlines in Brooklyn. Mario and Luigi decide to take matters into their own hands and head underground to fix it. But, as luck would have it, they stumble upon something extraordinary. A mysterious Warp Pipe sucks them in and sends them tumbling into a world beyond their wildest dreams.

Mario finds himself in the enchanting Mushroom Kingdom, a realm ruled by the gracious Princess Peach. On the flip side, Luigi lands in the ominous Dark Lands, a domain under the iron-fisted rule of the nefarious Koopa king, Bowser. Unbeknownst to Luigi, Bowser has sinister plans – he aims to marry Princess Peach and is willing to use a powerful Super Star to obliterate the entire Mushroom Kingdom if she refuses.

Luigi’s in trouble, and Bowser knows just how to get to Mario’s heart – by holding his brother hostage. It’s a rivalry fueled by love, competition, and the fate of the Mushroom Kingdom hanging in the balance.

As Mario navigates this new world, he encounters Toad, a loyal and quirky guide who’s more than eager to help him on his quest. Together, they set off to find Princess Peach and put a stop to Bowser’s menacing plans.

But this adventure won’t be a solitary one. Princess Peach has her own intentions – she’s planning to forge an alliance with the primate Kongs, enlisting their help to thwart Bowser’s advances. Alongside Mario and Toad, she embarks on a journey to test their mettle and bond.

During their travels, Peach reveals a surprising secret – she arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom as a baby, where the kind-hearted Toads took her in and eventually crowned her as their leader. It’s a revelation that adds depth to her character and deepens the connection between the heroes.

Their path takes them to the Jungle Kingdom, where King Cranky Kong, a grizzled elder, agrees to aid them in their mission under one condition – Mario must face off against Cranky’s son, Donkey Kong, in a no-holds-barred showdown. It’s a test of strength and character that Mario must pass, and he does so with flying colours, defeating Donkey Kong even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Now, armed with newfound allies and determination, Mario, Peach, Toad, and the Kongs embark on a journey to return to the Mushroom Kingdom. They hop into their trusty karts and hit the road, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.

However, their progress is hindered when Bowser’s army stages an ambush on Rainbow Road, a treacherous and colourful track suspended high above the kingdom. It’s a battle where the odds are stacked against our heroes, and they must summon all their courage to survive.

Just when it seems like all hope is lost, a blue-shelled Koopa General makes a kamikaze attack, destroying part of the road and sending Mario and Donkey Kong hurtling into the vast ocean below. As they struggle to stay afloat, their companions are captured by Bowser’s forces, leaving Mario and Donkey Kong to fend for themselves.

Meanwhile, back in the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach and Toad rally the citizens, urging them to evacuate and prepare for the impending showdown with Bowser’s forces.

The climactic moment arrives when Bowser descends upon the kingdom in his menacing flying castle. He has one goal in mind – to marry Princess Peach, and he’s not taking no for an answer. In a heart-wrenching moment, Peach reluctantly agrees to the marriage after witnessing Bowser’s advisor, Kamek, inflict torture upon Toad.

But this isn’t the end of the story; it’s just the beginning of the final act. Mario and Donkey Kong, who’ve been on their own adventure since their fall from Rainbow Road, have their own scores to settle. They share a common desire – the desire for the respect and approval of their fathers.

Together, they navigate treacherous waters, eventually finding themselves inside the belly of a colossal eel-like creature known as the Maw-Ray. It’s a place of darkness and danger, but it’s also where they discover a newfound understanding of each other.

Their escape from the Maw-Ray is nothing short of spectacular, involving a rocket, a daring ride, and quick thinking. With the determination to make it back to their friends, they embark on a race against time.

As the clock ticks, Peach, Toad, and imprisoned citizens prepare to face their doom. Bowser’s plan is diabolical – he intends to execute all his prisoners by tossing them into a pool of searing lava. It’s a horrifying fate that awaits them unless someone intervenes.

And intervene they do. Mario and Donkey Kong arrive at the scene just in the nick of time, unleashing a rescue mission that’s nothing short of heroic.
