The Lord of the Rings
It is one of the most popular book series of all time, so it’s no surprise that has been adapted for both big and small screens. While there have been various interpretations over the years, one aspect always remains is the fantastic world created by Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings is an epic and high fantasy novel by English author and scholar J. R. R. Tolkien.
Set in Middle-earth, intended to be Earth at some time in the distant past, the story began as a sequel to Tolkien’s 1937 children’s book The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling books ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.
The show will explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The show’s official Twitter account sent out an image of a map along with two messages: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie,” as well as “Welcome to the Second Age.”
In Tolkien’s mythology, the Second Age was when the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence. Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, It begins during a time of relative peace. It covers all the significant events of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien’s original stories but are condensed for the series.
About the new series
The Lord of the Rings series is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which produced the 2000s Peter Jackson trilogy.
The series was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand, in the past months, and the team will return there to film season 2, newly renewed.
I am thrilled that New Line Cinema is coproducing the show because we get to have some kind of merge of the Peter Jackson view in this show; I was even more excited to learn that Howard Shore will compose the main title of the show, being the Lord of the rings trilogy score one of my favourites of all time. I didn’t need time to adapt to the show, letting go of what I know of the middle earth created in the films New Line Cinema co-produced.
It is important to mention that I am not racist or have any problems with gender inclusion or anything like that. Many fans are furious that the protagonists are women and that part of the main cast is POC. People are angry about black dwarfs or elves; please, give me a break. I can’t believe people are trashing the show over casting choices.
The rings of Power is beautiful and visually stunning, the sound and music excellent, and the production design and Visual effects, in general, are very good. The story is taking its time, but it’s normal; it is a TV series with multiple seasons. It is not dragging as the three Hobbits movies; it s taking its time to develop, which is good.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered on September 1, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video, with its first two episodes, which Amazon stated had the most viewers for a Prime Video premiere. The rest of the eight-episode first season is running until October 14. It has received generally positive reviews from critics, with particular praise for its plot, cinematography, visuals and musical score.
